Mahama Touts AfCFTA as Catalyst for Strengthening Ghana-Czech Economic Relations

President John Dramani Mahama has emphasized the transformative potential of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) in expanding economic cooperation between Ghana and the Czech Republic.

Speaking at the Czech-Ghana Business Cooperation Seminar held in Accra, President Mahama encouraged Czech companies to leverage Ghana’s strategic position as a gateway to the African market.

Highlighting AfCFTA’s goal of creating a unified market of over 1.3 billion people, Mahama underscored the advantages for Czech businesses seeking to establish or expand their presence in Africa.

He noted that Ghana’s active role in the free trade area makes it an ideal entry point for investment, trade, and partnership opportunities across the continent.

“Ghana’s participation in the African Continental Free Trade Area presents a unique opportunity for Czech businesses,” President Mahama said. “It opens doors not only within Ghana but also to a vibrant and rapidly growing market across Africa.”

Mahama also drew attention to Ghana’s efforts to diversify its non-traditional exports, citing processed foods, textiles, and manufactured goods as high-potential sectors. He emphasized that AfCFTA’s reduction of trade barriers and promotion of regional integration make it easier for businesses to grow and scale within the continent.

“Through the AfCFTA, we’re creating an environment that encourages cross-border trade, reduces tariffs, and fosters inter-African cooperation,” he explained. “This enables our private sector to thrive, and it also presents an opportunity for foreign partners to be part of Africa’s growth story.”

President Mahama encouraged Czech companies to partner with Ghanaian enterprises to explore collaborative ventures across key sectors, noting that such partnerships could bring mutual economic benefits and spark innovation.

“Ghana is well-positioned to serve as a launchpad for Czech businesses aiming to enter the African market. Together, we can build lasting economic relationships that support sustainable growth for both our countries,” he said.

He concluded by expressing hope that strengthened Ghana-Czech ties, underpinned by the AfCFTA, would not only boost bilateral trade but also foster greater economic integration between Africa and Europe.
