Bawumia Urges NPP Supporters to Stay Calm Amidst Alleged Intimidation

Amidst Political Tensions, Bawumia Urges NPP Supporters to Stay Law-Abiding

Former Vice President and 2024 NPP presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has called on NPP members and supporters to remain calm, steadfast, and law-abiding, in the face of what he describes as increasing political intimidation.

His statement follows the alleged attempted arrest of Assin South MP John Ntim Fordjour by National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) operatives.

After visiting the MP, whom he described as “in high spirit and undaunted” despite the raid on his residence, Dr. Bawumia issued a message to party loyalists. “I charge all Party faithful to remain calm, steadfast, and law-abiding in this period of unfortunate political persecution,” he stated.

He affirmed the NPP’s commitment to the rule of law and democratic principles, even when provoked.

Dr. Bawumia reiterated his call to President John Dramani Mahama to restrain security operatives and prevent the politicization of state institutions. “The security institutions of our country must not be reduced to political tools used to harass and intimidate opponents,” he emphasized, warning that such actions are unacceptable to Ghanaians.

He described the security officials’ conduct as a “descent into lawlessness and fear,” stressing the need for professionalism and accountability within Ghana’s security services.

Bawumia reassured the NPP and its supporters that the party will stand firm against any abuse of power and continue to uphold democratic values and justice.
