Joyce Bawah Mogtari Files Lawsuit Against Abronye for Malicious Remarks

Mogtari’s legal team argues false claims have caused severe reputational damage

Joyce Bawah Mogtari, Presidential Advisor to President John Dramani Mahama, has issued a legal demand for an unqualified apology and GH₵10 million in compensation from Abronye, the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), following defamatory remarks made during a televised interview.

The legal notice, dated April 3, 2025, accuses Abronye of making “false, reckless, and malicious” claims during a March 26 interview on Net 2 TV.

Abronye allegedly stated that Mrs. Mogtari was advised against pursuing a ministerial role and instead took a “stress-free presidential staffer position” with a monthly salary of GHS95,000. He further claimed this made her “disrespectful to Ghanaians.”

These statements have widely circulated online, including on platforms such as GhanaWeb, leading to significant public ridicule, embarrassment, and harm to Mrs. Mogtari’s reputation.

Her legal team has emphasized that Abronye’s statements were both factually incorrect and unjustifiable, as the details of her appointment are public and could have been easily verified. As a result, they are demanding an immediate retraction, a public apology, and a GH₵10 million compensation for the reputational damage caused.
