Government Receives ECG, NEDCo Privatization Report with Strategic Recommendations

The Minister of Energy and Green Transition set to evaluate the report’s findings and next steps.

The Technical Committee tasked with advising the government on Private Sector Participation (PSP) in the operations of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) has delivered its report to the Minister of Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor.

The committee outlined three pivotal recommendations aimed at resolving the current challenges facing both companies.

The suggested models include: Entity Concession, where the entire distribution business is handed to a private concessionaire; Multiple Lease, which divides the distribution network into separate parts for individual private operators; and Service Franchise, where the private sector manages the low voltage network from distribution transformers to consumers.

Committee Chairman Jabesh Amissah-Arthur discussed these options with Minister Jinapor, emphasizing their potential to improve service delivery and efficiency.
