Online Entrepreneurs Demand Better Internet Connectivity to Boost Digital Business in Ghana
Online business owners in Ghana are calling on the government to upgrade the country’s internet infrastructure to support digital trade and economic growth. They argue that poor internet connectivity is hindering online transactions, delaying payments, and making it difficult to engage with customers, thereby affecting business profitability.
Among those advocating for improved internet services is the Ashanti Regional Director of UP Africa Movement, Mr. David Megga, who expressed frustration over frequent network disruptions and slow internet speeds.
Speaking at an event in Adum to introduce online business opportunities to Ghanaians, Mr. Megga highlighted how unreliable internet has created major challenges for entrepreneurs.
“Slow and unstable internet makes it difficult to complete transactions, communicate with customers, and grow our businesses. Many of us depend on e-commerce, digital marketing, and online services, yet we face constant connectivity issues,” he said.
According to him, the lack of reliable internet is one of the biggest obstacles preventing Ghanaian businesses from competing effectively in the global digital marketplace.
Mr. Megga, on behalf of the online business community, is calling on the government and telecommunication companies to invest in modern internet infrastructure, expand broadband coverage, and ensure affordable, high-speed internet access nationwide.
“We need fast, reliable, and affordable internet to take full advantage of digital opportunities. The government must make this a priority because the digital economy is the future,” he emphasized.
He believes that improving internet connectivity will boost digital commerce, attract foreign investments, and position Ghana as a major hub for online business in Africa.

In addition to urging the government to upgrade internet services, Mr. Megga encouraged Ghanaian youth to embrace online business as a means of financial independence.
“We are in a digital age. Instead of waiting to complete school and look for jobs, young people should explore online business opportunities using their smartphones. The internet provides countless ways to earn a living,” he advised.
